Belize City Council's Youth Shadow Council Holiday Homeless Initiative

Tue, 15th December 2020

Our hearts are full as we conclude the final day of our week-long Holiday Homeless Initiative. Our Youth Shadow Council in partnership with the Mental Health Resource Center have dedicated themselves not only to feeding the homeless for the past week, but also to spending time and entertaining those less fortunate. They ended their journey on a fun note today, playing bingo with those who visited the center and providing care packages to the winners.
The Belize City Council was happy to also provide transportation for those who wished to utilize the center, as transportation was a much needed and previously unavailable resource.
We must acknowledge our very own Councilor with responsibility for Public Health, Delthrude Hylton. From the onset of the pandemic Councilor Hylton has been working with the centre and other local organizations to provide proper shelter, masks and sanitization products for the homeless and mentally ill members of our society.
Those in need can still visit the Mental Health Resource Center for assistance, a warm shower and a fresh change of clothes.
We thank everyone who worked with us during this project and hope it will inspire our residents to spread compassion and be there for their neighbors this holiday season. During these times the one thing that is certain, is that together we can overcome. Let us all help each other to beat the hurdles and conquer our challenges together.
