We are pleased to share that our Belize City Urban Sustainability and Smart City Project continues to progress. Through our partnership with the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) Mayor Bernard Wagner was able to acquire and handover a new DJI Phantom 4 drone and flight battery charging hub, two lenovo laptos, two external drives, one GPS handheld, two Logitech mouses, and additional batteries to our Geographic Information System(GIS) Department.
This project seeks to implement an Urban Sustainability strategy, which focuses on the enhancement and strengthening of the Belize City Council's decision-making modalities to improve evidence-based municipal planning, using GIS as a tool to enhance visibility in terms of generating the relevant data needed to support community inclusiveness (through park/green space refurbishment) and policy development.
The purpose is to demonstrate the importance of integrating IT, evidence-based decision-making and community engagement when designing and undertaking impactful and sustainable actions for the municipality.
The technological suite will provide the GIS Unit with the necessary tools to expand on ongoing baseline studies for the municipality, extending into the adjoining Krooman Lagoon area.
We look forward to seeing the impacts this undertaking will have on our entire city as it inches closer to completion!
