Trade License Board

Belize City Trade Licensing Board Members are as follows:

WHAT IS A TRAD LICENSE 

Every  person who wishes to commence a trade withing the limits of any licensing district shall, before he commences such business, submit to the Board of the licensing district wherein he proposes to set up his trade, an application in writing in the form set out in the Schedule III signed by him setting out the nature of the trade he proposes to set up, his name and address and nationally and such other particular as may be relevant to his application. 


THE FOLLOWING ARE NEEDED WHEN APPLYING FOR A TRADE LICENSE

· Business Registration Certificate

· Social Security card/ Passport

· Completed Trade License Application

(all necessary requirements are stated on the

application forms)

NB: if you are going to erect a building for commercial purposes, a copy of the Site Plan must be submitted to the Belize City Trade Licensing Board before commencing works.

Trade license fee is levied at 25% of the annual rental value of the premise on which trade operation will commence.


RELOCATION OF BUSINESS

The applicant must first inform the Board of its    intent to relocate, in writing, stating the particulars and completed application. 

A fee Of $50.00 must be paid upon submission of application.

 

CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP/CHANGE OF BUSINESS NAME

 

Requirements

¨ Business Registration Certificate (NEW APPLICANT)

¨ Social Security Card

¨ Completed Application Form

¨ A fee of $50.00 must be paid upon submission of application.

NB.  It is the responsibility  of the business owner to notify the Board in writing  upon closing of  such business.

Every Board shall annually assess each Trade and levy a fee for every license granted under this Act.

Every Board shall meet in the early half of  January, April, July and, October . 

An applicant may request a special hearing of the Board and shall pay a fee of $150 for such hearing


Penalty for Carrying On A Business Without A Trade  License

Any person carrying on a trade without a license is guilty of an offense and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars, and shall cease to carry on the business concerned. Such person shall further not be entitled  either by himself or in association with   others to a license to Trade for a period of two years from the date of his conviction.

Notwithstanding the foregoing provision of this section, the Board may issue a Stop Order to any person who carries on a trade or business in contravention of section 9, or whose license has been forfeited or suspended by the Board in accordance with sections 5, and every person who contravenes or fails to comply with such Stop Order shall be guilty of an offence and shall be   liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding two thousand dollars or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months, or to both such fine and imprisonment.

 

A Board may suspend a license if the license holder is in default of payment of property tax, refuse collection fees or other fees and charges imposed by law, which are payable to the local authority. Every such suspension shall remain in force until all the outstanding taxes, fees and charges have been made with local authority for such payment.
