The Belize City Council Unveils Newly Rehabilitated Armadillo Park

Thu, 25th February 2021

As we embarked on the Belize City Urban Sustainability and Smart City Project we anticipated a better quality of life for all residents and today we were able to enjoy some of the fruits of that vision.
As mentioned, our initial phase targets two parks, and today through our partnership with the Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) the newly rehabilitated Armadillo Park was unveiled by Mayor Bernard Wagner to the Mesopotamia Community where the youth in the neighborhood were treated to cotton candy, fruit cups and popcorn.
Not only was the park fitted with new planters, fencing around the basketball court, park benches, picnic tables, a snack shop, trees and a reinforced swing and slide set, but our very own residents have played an integral part in seeing this project through from the planning phase with partners such as Community Representative Shane Harris, to the children who assisted with the spreading of the sand, painting and filling of the planters and painting of the trees.
Our efforts yielded a number of sponsors who we must acknowledge such as Pandoras WindowBox Nursery, Strukture Architects, K&M Construction Ltd., Slingshot Design and Belize Water Services Limited. In the coming weeks residents can also look forward to a free Wi-Fi zone and a hand-washing station to be added to Armadillo Park.
The development of this project is a testament to what we can do when we work together. This Belize City Council is proud to be "Always ‘bout the people.”
