Celebrating culture, unity, and heritage! Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller, with the full support of council members, was honored to accept a token of appreciation on behalf of the Belize City Council at the Yurumein Project Appreciation Dinner. This recognition reflects the Council’s steadfast commitment to cultural preservation and community empowerment.
The Yurumein Project plays a vital role in revitalizing the Garifuna language, uplifting Garifuna youth, and preserving cherished traditions such as honor, respect for elders, and the principle of ‘au bun amuru nu.’ Since 2019, they have engaged nearly 300 individuals through the Wayanuha Garifuna Language Program, ensuring that the language continues to thrive for generations to come.
Speaking on behalf of Mayor Bernard Wagner and the Belize City Council, Deputy Mayor Miller reaffirmed the Council’s unwavering dedication to supporting initiatives that strengthen and preserve our diverse cultural heritage. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Yurumein Project for their invaluable work in safeguarding Garifuna language and traditions.
Deputy Mayor Miller also received a token of appreciation on behalf of Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Culture.
Together, we build a stronger, more united Belize!
