The Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) has selected His Worship Mayor Bernard Wagner as one of its five global members among the entire commonwealth to serve on the Steering Committee for the Commonwealth Sustainable Cities Network (CSCN). The CSCN was launched at the 2015 Botswana conference and was formed to enable CLGF members to come together and evaluate key issues relating to: devolution and governance at the city/municipal level, urban trade, economic development and investment, technology for development and creating inclusive and resilient cities with SDGII.
The purpose of the CSCN is to unite mayors and managers across the Commonwealth and to support cities in their responses to the challenges and opportunities of urbanization. The Steering Committee, whose activity had previously been halted due to COVID-19 is now being reconstituted.
The Committee will bring together Mayor Wagner to represent Belize City, Belize as well as the Mayors from Bristol, UK; Colombo, Sri Lanka; eThekwini (Durban), South Africa and Windhoek, Namibia to guide the work of the CSCN. The term of the Committee will last for two years with their first online meeting slated for April 19, 2021.
Per the norm, our Mayor continues to display his affinity for international partnerships that translate to great benefits for our city. We proudly congratulate Mayor Wagner for this honor, and extend our full support to him as he represents Belize City during his work with the CSCN. We also look forward to continue building on our amiable partnership with Secretary-General Lucy Slack and the entire CLGF!
