We are proud to announce that Deputy Mayor Allan Pollard Jr. and City Planner Ms. Carla Patnett recently represented Belize City at the Innovate4Cities 2024 Conference (I4C24) in Montreal, Canada!
Belize City was invited by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM), with the support of the European Union, as one of the leading Caribbean cities in the GCoM Americas region. Belize Cityโs participation highlights its commitment to innovative climate adaptation and mitigation strategies.
We are especially thrilled to share that our ongoing project on the city waterfront with floating infrastructure, in partnership with Blue21, was elected as one of the leading success cases for business-to-city cooperation!
As a city vulnerable to climate hazards such as pluvial, fluvial, and coastal flooding, this project aims to introduce a floating boardwalk to reduce vulnerability and build resilience to coastal flooding and erosion. This innovative solution will not only protect existing and future infrastructure but will also enhance the social and environmental landscape of our beautiful city.
Deputy Mayor Pollard and Blue21 delivered an engaging presentation showcasing the potential impact of this cutting-edge project. As we continue to collaborate with Blue21 to secure grant funding for the feasibility study, we are excited about the future of this climate adaptation initiative!
