The top three essayists in our 'Mayor for a Day' essay competition were proudly presented with their prizes by Mayor Bernard Wagner and Councillor Kaya Cattouse.
In November of 2024, secondary school students were invited to participate by submitting essays on the importance of youth inclusion in governance. We're elated to present
our top essayists:

1st Place: Sandra Lindo of Belize High School

2nd Place: Elissa Salam of St. Catherine Academy

3rd Place: Elroy Tucker of ITZAT STEAM Academy
As the grand prize winner, Ms. Lindo will have the unique opportunity to spend an entire day shadowing the mayor, gaining firsthand insight into local government and the responsibilities of leadership. This exciting experience will allow Ms. Lindo to observe the inner workings of community service and leadership in action.
Mayor Wager commended all participants for their thoughtful contributions and highlighted that this initiative will continue, with plans to further encourage youth involvement in governance.
Stay tuned for more youth engagement opportunities being provided through partnerships with the Belize City Council and the Child Advisory Body of Belize City!
