Floating Forward for a Resilient Belize City

This week, we proudly kicked off the 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 with two important sessions — first, an introductory meeting at City Hall, and later, a high-level briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister.

 Mayor Bernard Wagner, Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller, and our City Councillors warmly welcomed our visiting partners from 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝟮𝟭 and the 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 & 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 (𝗚𝗖𝗼𝗠), funded by the European Union, to Belize City and participated in an engaging session outlining the plans for the feasibility study and the exciting concept design for the proposed floating boardwalk along the Southern Foreshore.

We were equally honored to present this transformational concept to the 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗼, along with CEO of the Ministry of Tourism, Mrs. Nicole Solano, and Mr. Evan Tillett, Director of Tourism at the Belize Tourism Board, as we explore how this initiative aligns with national tourism, infrastructure, and climate adaptation goals.

Supported by grant funding from the Dutch Government, the feasibility study is expected to be completed by January 2026, and will serve as a critical first step in assessing the viability of a sustainable, multifunctional boardwalk that could enhance connectivity, tourism, recreation, and climate resilience in Belize City.
