Mayor Bernard Wagner and Councilor Micah Goodin, with responsibility for youth and sports, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Technology, Jamaica Faculty of Science and Sports. Also representing Belize City at the signing was Councilor Ryan Elijio and Sports Coordinator Michael Novelo.
Through this agreement, both BCC and UTech,Ja. will cooperate and work in identified areas such as Utech certified accreditation for coaches, student and faculty exchange, athletic scholarships, development and training of community leaders and public education via seminars, conferences and forums. Being the home of world class athletes like Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, UTech,Ja. is an ideal institution for this partnership.
The goal of this MOU is to not only improve the way our athletes perform, but also improve the way their athletic abilities are groomed and nurtured from a young age. It is through collaborations like this, we are all exploring new avenues and breaking new grounds so that a legacy can be left behind for our young men and women. We are confident that we will see the benefits of this agreement come to fruition with our children being the greatest benefactors.
