As we reflect on the one year anniversary of the passing of our dear colleague, Hubert Pipersburgh, we are happy to see the impact of his work with the Belize Diaspora community still benefiting the Belize City Council and Belize City Residents. Prior to the pandemic, Mr. Pipersburgh and other partners engaged in a networking initiative with a the Diaspora Community in New York which presented an opportunity to improve safety and efficiency for our Operational Support staff.
Thanks to this collaboration, the Council has received new trash grabbers which will replace the metal rods used by our employees to collect garbage. This is the first step in what is hoped to be an ongoing collaboration to improve trash management in our city and we remain in communication with our partners with intentions of receiving more equipment to fortify our Sanitation Department.
Additionally, we must mention another Diaspora Member, Ms. Jozine McGee who selflessly donated boxes of clothing items for both adults and children, back to school stationaries and footwear, canned goods and various other household items to the Belize City Council in an effort to assist the less fortunate. Ms. McGee has always kept the needs of her fellow Belizeans in mind despite living abroad and is a member of the "Concerned Belizean Group" who focus on the issues being faced by Belizeans. Ms. McGee's contribution was handed over to Councillors Albert Vaughan and Natasha Pipersburgh, and handed over to the Society of Saint Vincent De Paul, A Catholic lay organization which calls others to grow spiritually through service to those in need.
We congratulate and thank all our Belizean Diaspora partners who continue to give selflessly to their country, and keep the memory and legacy of Hubert Pipersburgh alive.
