Our Belize City Council team was joined today by a group of school children from the area to receive a special tutorial on the newly installed traffic light system at the intersection of St. Thomas Street and St. Joseph Street. The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillors emphasized the significance of traffic safety, particularly for pedestrians, and the importance of following traffic laws. The children were taught how to navigate the intersection safely, understanding the different signals and how to cross the road with caution.
This initiative, which addresses the safety of children and other pedestrians, fully aligns with our Sustainable Child-Friendly Municipalities (SCFM) objective. It is also another step toward improving Belize City's Smart City Ecosystem.
The Belize City Council urges all residents to adhere to the laws and regulations of the newly implemented traffic light system, prioritizing the safety and well-being of everyone in the community. By respecting the red, yellow, and green indications, drivers can contribute to a safer road environment, reducing the risk of collisions and promoting efficient traffic movement. Our enforcement team will also be in the area for next 3 weeks to provide guidance and to aid with this transition.
