Belize City Council Statement on Vendor Advertising at City Hall

The Belize City Council remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering economic development and supporting small businesses in our community. This dedication is evident through our various initiatives, including the Belize City Accelerator Program, Downtown Super Sales, and community festivals.

Since December 2024, the Valuation Manager communicated to all City Hall vendors regarding the removal of banners placed on the front of the building. However, the Valuation Manager allowed vendors to retain banners within the interior walls, situated directly where their businesses operate. Additionally, vendors were encouraged to install metal signage on the building, as some vendors have already done.

This decision aligns with our ongoing efforts to enhance the aesthetics and upkeep of City Hall, including rehabilitation work, sidewalk and parking space painting, and general improvements, while still providing vendors with a structured and organized platform to promote their businesses.

Furthermore, the Council is implementing a Vendor Directory within our premises, ensuring equal visibility and fair representation for all vendors in a coordinated and professional manner.

On January 22, 2025, the Revenue and Valuation Managers held a meeting with the owners of OMG Café, once again requesting their cooperation in adhering to the Council’s guidelines. Unfortunately, despite multiple engagements, compliance was not met. As a result, the Belize City Council sought assistance from the Enforcement Department and the Police Department to remove the banners—ensuring consistency and fairness, as other vendors have already complied with this directive.

We want to emphasize that the Belize City Council is not asking any business to close down. Rather, we are working to create a fair and equitable environment for all vendors while maintaining order and aesthetics around City Hall.
